Which platform is right for your website?

There isn’t one best platform — there’s the one that fits how your business actually works. This page walks through the five I build on, what each one is genuinely good at, and which is likely to suit you. Once you know where you land, I’ll send you the pricing for that platform.

The short version

Most of this decision comes down to three questions.

Do you need to sell products online? That’s Shopify.
Do you want to log in and change things yourself? That’s Squarespace.
Does the site need to do more than a template allows? That’s a custom build — Cloudflare, Netlify or Vercel underneath.

Going custom? See how the three compare — or just tell me what you need and I’ll pick.

Platform — Cloudflare

The infrastructure behind a custom build

Cloudflare is the network a hand-built site runs on — domain, hosting and delivery in one account you own, built to handle real traffic without extra setup.

Fast wherever they are

Served from the edge, close to every visitor — not from one data centre on the other side of the world.

Security built in

DDoS protection and SSL come with the platform, not as something to configure and hope for the best.

Custom builds

Which custom-build platform suits you?

All three host a hand-built site well. The difference is your ongoing hosting bill and how your domain is set up — I’ll recommend one, so you don’t need to choose.

Cloudflare

The lowest hosting cost

  • Hosting: a standard business site usually hosts for $0.
  • Extras: server-side features start at US$5/month.
  • Forms: handled by a one-off form service, included in your build.

Your domain’s settings move to Cloudflare, so I review your email setup first.

Netlify

Keep your existing domain provider

  • Hosting: free for small sites, or US$9–20/month as traffic and updates grow.
  • Forms: built in, with no extra service needed.
  • Plan: most business sites need Pro (US$20/month) so I can manage the site with you.

If the monthly allowance runs out, the site pauses — I set you up on the right plan from day one.

Vercel

For more app-like projects

  • Hosting: business sites need the paid plan, from US$20/month.
  • Access: with you as owner and me deploying, expect about US$40/month.
  • Usage: extra usage beyond the included amount is billed on top.

I only recommend Vercel when your project clearly needs it.

Hosting accounts are set up in your business’s name, with access for me. Build and care prices are in AUD + GST. Hosting and services like Sanity are billed by the provider, usually in USD, separately from your build. The Care Plan ($45/month) is available on every custom build. Provider prices can change — I’ll always confirm current costs in your quote.
